# Review and approve company facts

Add a fact to the ledger, check its source and observations, and decide whether KnitKnot may use it in published content.

## At a glance

  1. 1. **Add a statement**: Record what is true, with a source and date when you have them.
  2. 2. **Check the record**: Open the fact to inspect its source, status, and supporting observations.
  3. 3. **Approve or revoke**: Control whether the current fact can be used in published content.

The [Fact Ledger](https://app.knitknot.ai/facts/fact-ledger) holds the company facts KnitKnot can check against AI answers. A fact is a statement about your company, such as a product capability, certification, or price. Keep the statement specific enough that someone reading an answer could tell whether it agrees.

If KnitKnot has proposed a fact from research or observed material, review it under [Facts → Discoveries](/docs/review-discoveries/) before accepting it into the ledger.

## Add a fact

  1. 1. Open **Facts → Fact Ledger** in the console.
  2. 2. Select **Add fact**.
  3. 3. Choose the kind of fact and write the statement. This is the only required field.
  4. 4. Add a **Source URL** and **Date** when they establish where and when the statement was true.
  5. 5. If one number or name must match exactly, enter it as the **Checkable value**. For a statement about a $149 plan, for example, the checkable value would be `$149`. A fact without one can still be read as prose, but it is not graded as a checkable value in Journeys.
  6. 6. Select **Add fact** to save it.

If the ledger already has a current fact with the same key, the form reports the conflict. Open the existing record before adding another version.

## Check the record before approval

Open the fact from the ledger. Its detail page shows the statement, kind, source, date, confidence, provenance, and approval status. The **Supporting observations** table shows quotes from crawled sources when those observations exist. You can search the quotes or filter them by source.

An empty observations table has more than one meaning. A fact entered from company research can have no independent observation yet. The page says so; it does not treat an empty table as proof that the statement is false. Check the source and the statement itself before approving it.

## Approve a current fact

Select **Approve for publication** on the fact detail page when your team accepts the statement for published use. The ledger also offers an approval action on each current fact. An approved record shows who approved it and an expiry date when one applies.

Approval applies to the current record. A superseded fact remains in the history and cannot be approved as the current version. If a statement becomes wrong or unsafe to publish, select **Revoke approval** and add a note if it helps the next reviewer. The status then changes to **Approval revoked**. An expired approval needs review and re-approval.

Publication approval is a deliberate decision about what KnitKnot may cite in managed agent content. Keep a source and a date with time-sensitive facts, especially prices and plan limits.
